Court approves up to $14,500 for constable firearms, holsters and training

Johnson County Commissioners voted to approve a not‑to‑exceed $14,500 purchase for firearms, lights, holsters and ammunition to outfit constable deputies and support training and conversion to a new duty weapon.
Constable Wylie told the court his office tested options and wants to standardize on the Walther PDP 9mm for deputies. “So we'd sent some people out, test test drove the weapons that they brought... we, wanna go with the Walther PDP 9 millimeter,” he said, describing a package request for eight weapons plus optics, lights, holsters and ammunition for training. The judge noted the package was developed with input from the sheriff and constables and expressed appreciation for the purchasing department’s work to assemble the vendor package.
On a motion and second the item carried unanimously. The purchase is to be funded from the equipment reserve fund and authorization was given for the county judge to sign related documents.
