The La Habra City Council spent the session interviewing a line of applicants for openings on the Planning and Community Services commissions, asking each candidate a series of timed questions about local priorities, community events and land use.
Several candidates raised housing and local-control concerns. Roy Ramsland said state housing rules that reduce parking requirements could create problems, warning, “The interference from the State of California with telling us when and where and how much housing we can build without requiring any parking is going to turn into a problem.” Candidates also highlighted the limits of city resources and infrastructure when implementing downtown plans, urged more outreach to non-English-speaking residents, and emphasized services for residents with disabilities. After questioning, the council moved to receive and file the applications; staff said the council may act on appointments at its March 16 or April 6 meeting.
