Parent tells county commissioners emergency gate delay at Ham Creek Park nearly cost her child’s life

Jones told the court that her 7-year-old daughter suffered heat stroke while camping and that emergency responders, including CareFlight, were delayed at a gated camping area while staff located a gate code; Jones said she has documentation showing the response was delayed from 06:43 to 06:46. "Emergency access should never depend on locating a gate code during a medical emergency," Jones told the court, and she said she knows of at least three separate occasions when first responders were delayed at the same gate.
Jones asked the court to review park management, staffing, and leadership and to ensure corrective action where necessary. Judge Barker responded that no action could be taken immediately during public comment but assured Jones that the court and staff would look into the concern and follow up. The court recorded the comment for staff review and noted the matter would be investigated further by county staff and the appropriate precinct office.
