Multiple residents used public comment to raise questions about the town’s property acquisition near Town Hall at 1128 Hillman Street, which the mayor and staff said is intended to support the planned art and community center.
John Peters praised recent historic‑committee appointments but told council that if the property becomes a parking lot he would be worried about new nighttime lighting and other impacts to adjacent homes. Travis Bowers, a recent arrival on Hillman Street, said he was surprised to learn of the acquisition and said his concerns include overflow parking, lighting and noise; he thanked the mayor for near‑term mitigation measures (no‑outlet and no‑parking signs) that staff installed.
The council entered an emailed statement from Victor L. Crouch supporting the town’s purchase and citing the need for additional parking capacity during events such as the town market and during construction of the art and community center; Mayor Lyon asked that the email be placed on the public record.
