Hidalgo County adopts regional tire ordinance resolution to curb scrap‑tire hazards

The Hidalgo County Commissioner's Court voted to adopt a regional tire ordinance resolution aimed at standardizing scrap-tire management across the Lower Rio Grande Valley region.
The resolution, presented to the court as a regional collaboration effort, notes environmental and public-health hazards associated with scrap-tire accumulation and directs county staff to encourage municipalities to implement consistent storage, transportation and disposal practices. “Whereas Hidalgo County is committed to the proper management of scrap tires, and it is crucial for protecting public health, safety, and the environment,” the resolution text reads.
The Lower Rio Grande Valley Development Council’s executive director, Manuel Cruz, thanked the court for the adoption and said the council will work with cities and precincts to support implementation and public-awareness efforts, including local tire-recycling events.
The court approved the resolution by voice vote; county staff and the development council noted follow-up steps for outreach to municipalities in the region.
