Price County Zoning Administrator reports new floodplain and shoreland ordinance changes; FEMA maps still pending

Evan Lund, Price County’s Land Conservation and Zoning Administrator, reported at the July 29 meeting that the county has a new floodplain ordinance to comply with Wisconsin administrative rule NR116 and two shoreland ordinance amendments to comply with NR115. Lund said the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources have not yet produced updated floodplain insurance maps.
Lund discussed technical questions staff are tracking, including the use of holding tanks versus mound septic systems in shoreland areas and recent legal matters referred to a wetland specialist involving "two or three" neighbor disputes. He also said that while new construction in the county has cooled from the post-COVID surge two to three years ago, new homes are still being built and cellular tower permitting activity remains steady. No formal regulatory vote on the ordinances was recorded in the minutes; the update was provided as an informational briefing to the board.
