The Public Service Commission has not changed Oconto County’s five Project Units for BEAD planning, TEDCOR Executive Director Jayme Sellen told the Broadband Taskforce on Jan. 9. Sellen said the PSC wants to make sure there are projects in each county and that awards will be tied to the cost to serve each Project Unit.
Sellen said Oconto County is in a stronger position now that the County Board has approved local funding to support planned projects. The committee packet included a map of the five Project Units and a table listing unserved and underserved locations, which staff distributed at the meeting.
Committee members discussed the PSC’s role in awarding grants and the county’s need to provide local support documentation; no formal vote was required on this update. The Taskforce scheduled continued planning work for its next meeting on Feb. 11, 2025.
