Residents oppose landfill expansion; supervisors press for discussion of Corp Counsel at GenGov
Summary
During public comment Tom Lukens and others opposed expanding the county landfill and raised concerns about legal-services use by the GenGov committee. Supervisors Lawler and Taylor requested the board address Corp Counsel’s presence at GenGov meetings and recent decision-making practices.
Several members of the public used the board’s Audience to Visitors period to press the board on separate but related concerns.
Tom Lukens of Viroqua rose to speak “opposed to expanding the County’s landfill,” according to the minutes. Laura Roberts of Viroqua spoke about the county’s need and use of legal advice, and Ken Carlson raised concerns about the GenGov committee’s use (or not) of legal services.
Following public comment Supv Lawler asked that the full board discuss whether Corp Counsel should attend GenGov committee meetings, and Supv Taylor expressed concern about recent decision-making practices regarding Corp Counsel. The board agreed to place the Corp Counsel attendance issue on a future agenda for discussion.
