Staff reported that the FY26/27 budget kickoff took place and that departmental budget proposals are due at the end of the month. A staff presenter said the department is preparing proposals and, if programs are not fully funded, staff will seek sponsorships and partnerships to reduce general fund impact.
The presenter disclosed an unexpected resignation in the employment and training program and said a contractor, Kelly, will come in as an interim consultant through the end of the fiscal year to help stabilize the program, support recruitment and assist with contract negotiations with the county for a third-year contract beginning July 1. "Kelly stepped up and said, I will come in in the interim and consult on this program," staff said. Staff noted the city lacks a current local office footprint for the countywide program and that having the consultant in the nearby Brea office will help operations.
