Council ratifies up to $455,000 emergency repairs for erosion at Rickles Park

The Hurst City Council ratified an emergency purchase May 26 authorizing up to $455,000 with Humphrey and Morton Construction to repair ongoing erosion at Rickles (referred to as Winkle in staff comments) Park.
Public Works Director Robert Salcedo told the council the erosion has been ongoing for several years and that the department designed repairs in‑house to save costs. Salcedo said prior cost estimates from the parks department and external consultants ranged from about $2.0 million to $2.5 million, and that the $455,000 figure was sufficient based on the in‑house design and negotiations. "These repairs will not be able to exceed the $455,000 that were asked," Salcedo said. The council moved to ratify the emergency purchase and approved it by voice vote.
