Staff explains redaction policy after commissioner asks why Icon letter was blacked out

During discussion of the Park Place 2 materials, a commissioner asked why much of the Icon Construction letter had been redacted in the packet. "Why is so much of the ICON construction letter blacked out like that?" the commissioner asked.
Planning staff responded that the planning division has a policy of redacting personal information from application materials for privacy reasons and that the city recorder's office advised the practice. Staff said members of the public who want the unredacted information may file a public-records request. "This is a policy that we have started to enact in the community development department ... called redaction of personal information that may not be pertinent to the application out of privacy concerns," staff said.
