Third-party collections contractor reports $3.2 million collected this period, $18.2 million since 2020

Idam Gutierrez of the collections firm said the contractor sent more than 224,000 delinquency notices, corrected over 15,000 accounts and sent roughly 597,000 text messages during the reported period. "During this period, we have collected over $3,200,000 in delinquency owed to the county," Gutierrez said, and noted cumulative collections for Hidalgo County since 2020 exceed $18.2 million. He told commissioners the firm runs targeted marketing and a case-resolution campaign that uses billboards, digital ads and mailings to drive payments.
Commissioners and the presenter discussed data tools and geographic concentration of delinquents; Gutierrez said the top ZIP codes are in Hidalgo County but the firm also collects nationwide, including Hawaii and Puerto Rico. The presentation closed with an invitation for questions and a note that results from the current specialized campaign were still being tallied.
