The Hidalgo County Commissioners Court declared April 2026 World Wish Month and heard remarks from Make-A-Wish Rio Grande Valley.
Becky Gearhart, president and CEO of Make-A-Wish Rio Grande Valley, told the court the chapter recently granted 11 wishes in the Rio Grande Valley and intends to grant at least one wish per week in April. "We would love for you all to come out and to see the true joy and happiness that wishes bring," Gearhart said, thanking commissioners and volunteers for their support. The proclamation cites the Make-A-Wish movement's origins in 1980 and recognizes the chapter's work across Hidalgo and neighboring counties.
The court approved the proclamation by motion and voice vote; presenters said the chapter will share information about upcoming wishes and invited commissioners to attend events during World Wish Month.
