Monongalia County approves consent agenda and budget carryover revisions

The Monongalia County Commission on July 28 approved its weekly consent agenda and a required general fund budget revision to align carryover figures for the coming fiscal year. The county administrator read multiple voucher and levy totals, including a weekly voucher total of $1,265,009.32 and an earlier listed monthly/voucher batch of $1,579,003.77.
A county commissioner described the adjusted carryover figure and the recommended changes to next year’s budgets. "That number is actually $8,000,009.26," the commissioner said, noting a roughly $1,000,073 difference that needed to be moved from contingency and other lines. Commissioners discussed a jail spending overrun and the need for legislative attention to address costs they cannot control locally. After discussion, the commission voted by voice to approve the revisions and the consent items.
The consent list also included 35 exonerations totaling $27,042.59 and payroll and purchasing card listings presented during the reading. Commissioners said the budget adjustments are routine to account for carryover but highlighted continuing pressure from jail-related expenses and indicated they will work with other counties and the legislature on longer-term solutions.
