GRU will keep limited services and one van; council accepts resignation and directs wind-down steps

During a March 2, 2026 special meeting, Barnwell County Council accepted a resignation letter from Generations Unlimited and outlined immediate steps for closing or transferring services. The resignation was presented by GRU representatives and accepted by the council as part of the meeting record.
Council members and GRU leadership said that, while most services will wind down, certain food service programs and some local transportation routes will remain in place in the short term. Ms. Long said GRU will retain one van during the wind-down. Officials instructed the county Finance Committee to prepare a final expense report and asked Buildings & Grounds staff to help move furniture and equipment from GRU facilities.
Procedural motions at the meeting were brief: Councilman Hooper moved to approve the agenda (seconded by Councilman Kenner), and Councilman Buckmon moved to adjourn (seconded by Councilman Kenner); both motions carried. Chairman Houston publicly thanked Ms. Long and the GRU staff for their efforts to maintain services while addressing paperwork and funding difficulties.
