Council raises concern that Generations Unlimited may be 'on life support'

Chairman Freddie L. Houston Sr. told Barnwell County Council on Jan. 13 that Generations Unlimited, a local organization that has received county support, is struggling financially and may not be able to satisfy requirements set by the South Carolina Department of Transportation to obtain funds. "It's on life support," Houston said of the organization and urged the board to report back on findings about its viability.
Houston and other council members said the county has provided financial support in the past but that continued indefinite support is not sustainable if the organization cannot meet external requirements. Council members discussed the possibility of combining services with a neighboring county or seeking alternative operational structures if Generations Unlimited cannot secure necessary documentation or funding.
