County board shifts annual meeting to October under amended rules

The Vernon County Board on Sept. 18 adopted Resolution 2025-50 to amend the county board rules and designate the October meeting as the statutory annual meeting under Wis. Stat. 59.11(1)(a). Clerk J. Pedretti explained the statutory authority and the board approved the change on a voice vote.
Clerk Pedretti told the board, "The statutes allow the county board to change the date of the November annual meeting of the county board," and that holding the November meeting early can create conflicts with Veterans Day and the Board of Canvass. The adopted rule keeps the board's regular cadence on the third Thursday of each month and explicitly makes the October meeting the annual session required by statute.
The resolution passed unanimously by voice vote. The change is procedural and intended to avoid scheduling conflicts and to allow committee meetings to follow their regular cadence; no other rule changes were attached.
