Board asks state to join MS-ISAC to preserve county cybersecurity services

IT Director Simon asked the board to support a request that the State of Wisconsin establish a statewide membership in the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC), citing recent federal funding reductions and county reliance on those cybersecurity services.
Simon said MS-ISAC provides 24/7 threat monitoring and incident response used by thousands of SLTT organizations and that Vernon County had joined as a single-member organization when federal funding ended. The resolution requests the state to enter into a statewide membership to make services available to counties and municipalities and authorizes the county clerk to transmit the resolution to the Governor, state legislators and the Wisconsin Counties Association.
Supervisor Kilmer moved to adopt the resolution, seconded by Supervisor Lawler; the board adopted the measure by voice vote. The resolution notes MS-ISAC has said fees paid by Vernon County would be refunded or applied to add-on services should Wisconsin obtain a statewide membership.
