Detention medical/mental‑health phase nears completion; courthouse expansion moves to construction documents

Sandeep Katuria, county director of building projects, told Commissioners that multiple capital projects are advancing on schedule and provided change‑order tallies and percent‑complete figures.
Katuria said the adult detention facility Phase II medical/mental‑health project is about 94% complete, with HVAC startup and testing in progress, and that two change orders processed this quarter totaled roughly $74,000 while total change orders to date are $7,210,000 (about 6.85% of the contract). The healthcare, medical examiner and parking garage buildings were reported at around 93% complete, with total change orders to date of $3,135,000 (about 5.07% of that contract).
The courthouse expansion has moved from 50% to 100% design development and is entering construction documentation; staff anticipates the site and foundation guaranteed maximum price (GMP) for approval in October and a building package GMP in January next year. Katuria also presented progress photos and explained minor schedule adjustments related to weather and a small number of change orders.
What it means: the county continues large capital work across criminal justice and public health facilities; staff highlighted contingency and inflation concerns as these projects move from design to construction.
