The Kalkaska County Board of Commissioners voted Sept. 11, 2024, to approve a 4‑H soccer agreement governing use of the county fairgrounds and authorized the chair to sign the final document once county counsel and the parties resolved outstanding language and insurance issues.
County Administrator David Schaeffer told the board there were “discrepancies with language/insurance between MSUE and legal” that must be addressed before the final agreement is executed; he said the corrected document will be brought forward for signature. The board proceeded with a motion that approved the agreement "as approved by counsel" and empowered the chair to sign when the document is finalized.
Commissioner Robert Baldwin made the motion to approve; it was supported by Commissioner James Sweet. The clerk recorded a roll‑call vote of six yeas (Baldwin, Sweet, Bicum, Matley, Sieting, Fisher), zero nays, and one absence (Commissioner David Comai). The motion carried. The board did not record substantive public comment on the item beyond general expressions of gratitude from attendees on Zoom and in the room.
The special meeting began at 10:02 AM and the board adjourned at 10:09 AM after a short procedural session. The administrator and county counsel will finalize the agreement language and insurance provisions before the chair signs the agreement.
