Board lifts hiring freeze for a temporary Treasurer hire, tables several staffing items

During the Sept. 11 committee meeting, Commissioner James Sweet moved to approve Resolution 2024‑41 to lift the hiring freeze for the specific purpose of allowing the Treasurer to hire a temporary part‑time employee for training (noted as 29 hours or less). The motion was supported by Commissioner Scott Matley and approved by consensus.
Earlier in the meeting the board tabled a proposed motion to lift the hiring freeze to permit the Sheriff to fill a vacant Animal Control Clerk position; that item was deferred to the October committee. Commissioners also tabled discussion of a wage review for elected officials and requested additional comparison data after staff reported the county's average pay was approximately 6% under comparison counties.
