Kalkaska County commissioners voted by consensus on Sept. 11, 2024, to authorize Chair Kohn Fisher to execute two law‑enforcement contracts for the 2024–2025 school year: one with Forest Area Community Schools and one with Kalkaska Public Schools. The motions were made by Commissioners Robert Baldwin and Scott Matley, respectively, and recorded as passing with no opposition.
At the same meeting, Commissioner Scott Matley moved — and Commissioner David Comai supported — authorization for Chair Fisher to fully execute an agreement with Karpel Solutions. County Administrator David Schaeffer had presented a centralized packet of proposed motions and contracts to the committee before the votes. These items were presented as part of a group of administrative approvals intended to keep school safety and county services in effect for the academic year.
