State's Attorney Seymour Jordan told the board on May 19 that he had received complaints about the Clerk of Court/County Recorder office not being open during regular business hours and that the state — which helps fund the Clerk of Court — had indicated funding could be withdrawn if regular hours are not maintained. Jordan said he had discussed the issue with Judge Benson and the state and suggested Bottineau County could assist with Clerk of Court duties if necessary.
County Recorder Danielle Petersen told the board she has had McHenry County’s Clerk of Court helping as needed, that she and Julie Vetter interviewed three deputy candidates last week, and that a hire is expected soon. Jordan and the board said they would support Petersen.
