Renville County adopts 2026 burn policy, ties restrictions to ND Fire Danger Rating

The resolution bans ignition of fireworks, campfires, fire pits, recreational fires and burning of garbage, leaves, grass clippings, construction debris, pit burning, fallen trees and ditches whenever the Fire Danger Rating is High, Very High or Extreme or a Red Flag warning has been issued; it additionally restricts crop-residue and slough burning except when the rating is High and no Red Flag exists and a tilled firebreak and supervision requirements are met. The minutes record the penalty for violating the burn restriction as a Class B misdemeanor under the statute cited in the minutes (NDCC 37.17.1‑10.1) and authorize the Renville County Sheriff’s Department to issue citations.
DES Coordinator Kristy Titus presented the policy to the board and asked for the action; the board adopted the policy unanimously. The minutes list the Daily Fire Danger Rating website referenced in the resolution as https//ndresponse.gov and state the policy will remain in effect until rescinded.
