County highlights statutory fix to extend jail-release protections to nondomestic stalking victims

Dina Faucette told the commission she and a subcommittee identified a gap in the jail release agreement process that left nondomestic stalking victims without immediate protections prior to an initial court appearance. "We identified a critical gap in the statute. It did not protect nondomestic violence, nondomestic stalking victims," she said, and reported the amended language passed both the House and the Senate in the last legislative session.
Dominique Katipas (S6) and commissioners credited Faucette with driving the effort through stakeholders and the Capitol, and discussed how the county's victim-services work and VAWA grant helped support the initiative. Commissioners praised the outcome as extending an important safety mechanism to victims who previously had no legal protections during the critical early window after a release from custody.
