During public comment, Carol Jackson asked the council for an update on the James Island Creek TMDL and urged more citizen education and transparency about water-testing results.
"So I'm here to just, find out what is going on with the creek, the TMDL that was, you know, initiated. It's been more than 5 years at this point," Carol Jackson said, requesting an update and opportunities for citizen input.
Town staff said the county has taken testing in-house and that sampling will continue more frequently. The county presenter later reported to the council that the James Island Creek TMDL project is ongoing with a consultant assisting, and that "the bacteria levels were significantly reduced when it was last checked at the beginning of this quarter," signaling recent improvement in sampled coliform levels. Staff said they will continue sampling in April and May and that meeting materials or website postings could share results with the public.
Council members asked staff to add creek testing updates to future agendas and to consider publishing sampling schedules and results so residents can follow progress.
