Board signs off on Kaliseum renovations, event contracts and operational changes

The board approved multiple items related to the Kaliseum: Commissioners approved PCCO #22 and #23 from Spence Brothers tied to Kaliseum renovations and authorized Chair Kohn Fisher to execute agreements for community events, including Big Top Magic Show (Aug. 29) and Mr. Chainsaw Pro Wrestling (Sept. 7). The board also approved a contract with the Kalkaska County 4-H Soccer Program for the fall season.
Operational changes were approved to support facility use and revenue: off-peak pricing for Monday–Thursday events, a temporary summer schedule that closes the Kaliseum at 4:00 p.m. on specified weekend dates, and a Drop-In Pickleball Open Play program with rates set for the new multi-sport area. Parks and Recreation Director Chad Williams addressed scheduling and revenue considerations for the new programming.
The board also approved a $22,967.39 invoice from Grand Traverse Construction and authorized an $8,500 increase in invoices for Civic Center work from Matt's Underground after staff found 10–12 water lines rather than the three originally estimated. Commissioners recorded roll-call approvals on these items; all motions passed by roll-call votes with six yeas and one absence.
