Kalkaska commissioners authorize up to $1 million from Fund 516 to buy new 911 equipment

Commissioner David Comai moved the authorization, saying the administrator should work with legal counsel and that any transfer would require approval by the county treasurer; Commissioner Scott Matley supported the motion. The board adopted the motion by roll call vote, 7 yeas, 0 nays. The board specified the transfers would be repaid from the 911 millage each year.
The authorization followed a presentation by Sheriff Whiteford outlining vendor bids and recommendations for several components of a planned 911 center upgrade. Commissioners discussed due diligence and timelines for implementation and noted the transfer is intended as temporary funding until the new 911 millage replaces the balance in Fund 516.
Next steps include the county administrator coordinating with legal counsel and the treasurer to complete any required transfer paperwork and scheduling vendor contract execution for the approved equipment components.
