Auditor reports 'clean' 2023 opinion; warns federal pandemic funds will not continue

He recommended strengthening internal controls over financial reporting, including password limitations and consideration of third-party authentication to address growing cybersecurity risks.
County Administrator David Schaeffer introduced Peacock and provided the board with a talking-points memo outlining the audit presentation and recommended follow-up actions. The single-audit related to federal funds was noted as still pending completion.
Next steps discussed by the board included reviewing IT security recommendations and incorporating the auditor's management comments into the county's fiscal planning for 2025. No formal motion was required; the presentation was received by the board.
