Administrators reported an unofficial preliminary enrollment count of 2,993 for K–12, down 35 from the budgeted 3,028. A board member and administrators explained that part‑time and homeschool‑connection students reduce funded ADM, and staff estimated the current shortfall could be about $260,000 against projected revenue.
Building‑level counts were provided: Sturgis Elementary 542, Piedmont Valley 498, Whitewood about 117 (K–12), State Farm Middle School 430, Sturgis Brown High School 852, and a rural total of 77. Administrators noted that final official counts will be taken the last Friday in September, and small variations are common between the preliminary and official counts.
