Mountrail County approves $176,409 ARPA purchase for New Town weather sirens; one commissioner abstains

The Mountrail County Commissioners voted Oct. 1 to buy new weather sirens for New Town totaling $176,409, to be paid from American Rescue Plan Act funds. The motion was made by Commissioner Joan Hollekim and seconded by Commissioner Wayne Olson; Commissioners Trudy Ruland, Jason Rice, Olson and Hollekim voted yes and Commissioner John DeGroot abstained.
County officials said the sirens will be purchased outright using ARPA funding already allocated to public-safety projects. The minutes record the dollar amount and the funding source; no vendor was named in the motion. The Board took the vote during the regular meeting held in the Emergency/Community Room of the Mountrail County Courthouse in Stanley.
