Commissioners table rezoning for proposed Austin Township data center over documentation, immersion-cooling questions

Chairman Trudy Ruland opened a 9:15 a.m. public hearing on a rezoning petition from JDE Holdings LLC to rezone a roughly 3-acre tract in the NE¼ of Section 21, Township 154N, Range 90W (Austin Township) from Agricultural to Industrial for a data center. Melissa Vachal, Planning & Zoning Administrator, told the board the county Planning & Zoning Commission recommended tabling the request until the applicant submits the required documentation and further information on the project.
State's Attorney Wade Enget reported the applicant submitted a substantial change to the original conditional use permit to propose an immersion cooling system; the P&Z Commission sought more data because there are no known immersion-cooled facilities in North Dakota. Commissioner Joan Hollekim moved to table the rezoning request until the Planning & Zoning Commission makes a recommendation; Commissioner Jason Rice seconded and the motion passed on a unanimous roll call vote. The board did not take further action and left the matter pending P&Z follow-up.
