Commissioners deny single Cottonwood Bridge bid, waive liquidated damages on CR6 reconstruction

Road & Bridge Superintendent Scott Duerre and HDR Engineering staff presented multiple road items Aug. 6, including the Cottonwood Bridge bid opening and the CR6 Reconstruction Project timeline and liquidated-damages options. The lone bid for Cottonwood Bridge exceeded the engineer's estimate; engineer John Sauber recommended rebidding in the fall, and the board voted to deny the bid and rebid the project.
On the CR6 Reconstruction Project (White Earth City west to the Williams County line), HDR Engineer Matthew Huettl and representatives of Gratech, LLC discussed timeline extensions and four options for liquidated damages, ranging from full assessment to none. Gratech recommended no liquidated damages; after discussion about spring start dates, completion dates and additional engineering costs, the board approved Option 4 (no liquidated damages) to Gratech, LLC by roll call vote.
