Tax & Zoning Director Stacey Swanson told the Billings County zoning meeting on Jan. 15 that state legislation (SB 2027) requires the county to adopt a new floodplain management ordinance by May 31, 2026 to remain eligible for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP).
Swanson said the department will present a draft ordinance at the February meeting. The board did not take formal action on the ordinance at the Jan. 15 session; the presentation is the next procedural step ahead of the May 31 statutory deadline.
