Victims Advocate reports hundreds served in latest semiannual update

Cheryl Bergen gave the semiannual update for Box Elder County Victims Advocate Services and said the program served 340 victims in the July–September quarter and 310 victims in the October–December quarter, and completed 83 forensic interviews in the prior six months. "A good part of what we do is making sure that our victims are informed about what's going on, that they're informed about plea offers and that they get input," Bergen said, describing casework and training activities.
Bergen said advocates partnered with New Hope Crisis Center for outreach and provided domestic‑violence training to law enforcement agencies throughout the county. Commissioners thanked the advocates and invited participation in an upcoming point‑in‑time count for people experiencing homelessness and housing instability.
