EPA launches interviews and online survey to guide community outreach at Gelman site

Diane Vosso of the EPA told the CARD meeting that the agency is “kicking off our community engagement interviews” and has posted a flyer and survey link in the meeting chat to recruit participants. She said interviews will be 30–60 minutes and that an online survey is available for residents who prefer not to attend in person.
Vosso described one set of workshops planned for the week of Aug. 17–19 in Sio Township and said organizers are talking with the University of Michigan about student outreach in the fall. She emphasized the workshops are intended to gather community experience and communication preferences rather than to provide detailed technical answers, and asked CARD members to help distribute the flyer and encourage participation. “We’re trying to gather where the community is first,” Vosso said. The EPA contact also said anonymous survey responses are permitted to address confidentiality concerns raised by attendees.
CARD members and other participants asked whether CARD members should be prioritized for interviews and whether the outreach will reach residents who are not already active in advocacy networks. Vosso encouraged both one-on-one participation and survey completion and said the EPA can adjust scheduling if demand exceeds current slots. She and CARD agreed to share outreach materials and to coordinate further offline so the outreach schedule captures a broad set of local experiences.
