Board approves bid advertisements and accepts roofing, custodial and bus contracts

At its meeting the Meade School District board authorized several procurement actions and approved two contracts brought forward by the business office.

The board voted to advertise custodial-services RFPs for Stage Barn Middle School, Piedmont Valley Elementary and Sturgis Elementary with advertised dates and bid deadlines in March and presentations scheduled for the April 13 board meeting. For Piedmont Valley the committee said the new contract will combine day and night services into a single contract rather than rely on addenda.

The board accepted Low Roofing Inc.'s proposal of $98,945 for the Sturgis Elementary kitchen reroofing project. A buildings-and-grounds member described the price per-square-foot and noted Low Roofing’s prior work at Sturgis; the motion carried by voice vote.

Trustees also approved a Dakota Bus agreement for student transportation effective July 1, 2026 through June 20, 2029. Administration said the new contract includes a fuel pass-through intended to capture savings if diesel prices fall; staff estimated a near-term cost increase “probably about a $120,000” compared with the prior arrangement but said any savings will depend on fuel prices over the next 10–12 months. Board members asked about contract terms, escalators and the operational tradeoffs of the contract design; the motion carried.

No RFP awards beyond the roofing contract were finalized at the meeting; staff will present bid packages and recommended awards for approval at the April board meeting.
