Ayesha Cook, president of the NAACP New Rochelle chapter, closed the program by urging continued support for youth councils and by celebrating the honorees. "New Rochelle, we are, we are awesome," Cook told the audience, urging adults to give young people space to create and decide on issues affecting them. She invited the public to a Black History Month celebration on Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in the Linda Kelly Theater at New Rochelle High School.
Kelly Johnson, executive director of the New Rochelle Youth Bureau, thanked staff and partners, reflected on the youth 'takeover' of the evening, and handled housekeeping details including a request that honorees and youth council members remain for a group photo and refreshments in the rotunda.
