The health officer explained the department is a district health department authorized under section 24 of the Public Health Code (Act 368), covering six counties including Roscommon, and that the department provides eight mandated programs. "Our total fiscal year 26 budget is a little over $17,000,000. Roscommon County's appropriation share is $226,325," the presenter said, and reported local activity levels including 262 well permits, 182 septic permits, 286 water samples, 194 routine food inspections, and 773 vaccines provided.
The presenter highlighted environmental health work tied to the county’s lakes (beach testing and a local water lab), community health services (overdose prevention and community health workers), and personal and family health programs including WIC and maternal-infant services. He noted the department employs 10.9 FTE assigned to Roscommon County; personnel costs are the largest expenditure.
Commissioners asked clarifying questions about same-day testing, beach sampling and local program staffing. County officials thanked the presenter and requested the health department remain engaged as the county considers related program support and partnership options.
