Council member David Peters, speaking at the Champions of Change awards at New Rochelle City Hall, welcomed attendees on behalf of the City Council and tied the ceremony to Black History Month. Peters told the audience: "A lie told once is questioned. A lie represented often enough becomes accepted. And once it becomes common sense, people stop investigating it. That is how deception survives." He urged honorees to "live in the truth."
Todd Castaldo, speaking on behalf of City Manager Will Melendez, thanked staff and partner organizations and highlighted the role of city departments in supporting youth programs. "Black History Month is a time to reflect, to honor, and to recognize the generations of black leaders, innovators, advocates, and everyday heroes," Castaldo said, and congratulated the evening's honorees for their service to the community. He also named several city officials in attendance, noting support across departments.
