Commissioners urge plan and funding clarity as EDC dissolves; county funds to be held pending strategy

Visitors and local leaders updated the board on the imminent dissolution of the county Economic Development Corporation and options for a successor nonprofit. Erin Westcoat, who identified herself as with "Curling Community College" and a longtime Roscommon resident, said forming a 501(c)(3) will take time and "fundraising is a very key, critical aspect to the success of this organization." She urged patience and stressed that any new group must demonstrate capacity to deliver value to the county.
Commissioners asked for a written plan outlining responsibilities, staffing and how remaining EDC funds would be used before the county releases money. One commissioner suggested holding the funds for up to a year while a plan is developed; others recommended a strategic plan and clear operational leadership. The board agreed it would be reasonable to request a plan from interested parties and to keep county funds in reserve pending an acceptable proposal.
