GFL Environmental says operator error caused permit violation; will submit formal rebuttal to Conservancy blog

Greg Warner, director of wastewater treatment for GFL Environmental speaking on behalf of Arbor Hills landfill, addressed the Board to dispute claims in a Conservancy Initiative blog about an event on March 25. Warner said the blog made two claims: that the site purposefully did not sample at a certain time to avoid disclosure, and that the March 25 event caused impacts at the Yucca Treatment Plant on May 14. "There were 2 claims in that blog post...For clarity on that day, there was an error by our operator on that day," Warner said.
Warner said the company will deliver a formal rebuttal letter to the commission for the record. He characterized the March 25 issue as an operator error during emergency maintenance that led to a permit violation and apologized for the incident. The working session did not include a commission response period, and the chair encouraged Warner to present a written statement at the full board meeting and to submit the letter for the packet.
