Mayor Alexander presented preliminary designs for Tapscott Park and said the city has forwarded student renderings to a design/build firm to produce formal concepts and cost estimates. "We then took those and actually submitted those to a full build design company, and they begin working through their projects," he told the board, describing playground equipment, a pavilion, a splash pad and a proposed pickleball court.
Board members raised immediate concerns about parking and safety near the volunteer fire station and asked whether adjacent land owned by private parties could be acquired for lot expansion. Alexander said staff are pursuing grants and internal funds and that one grant application due next week could result in either a $2,000,000 award or a $500,000 award. He added the firm provided a preliminary budget and that the city will have pricing calls and work with an engineer to finalize costs and procurement. "As part of this, they did give me a preliminary, they get a preliminary budget and estimate," he said. The mayor also said the project team is considering a design‑build approach using vendors on the state buy board to streamline contracting.
