Palo Alto County supervisors approve FY27 pay increases for employees and officials

The Board approved a series of salary increases effective July 1, 2026: 3% for most county employees and several elected offices, a 4% raise for the sheriff, and a 3% plus $1.75/hour boost for dispatch and jail administrators. One supervisor voted nay on the supervisors' raise.
The Palo Alto County Board of Supervisors approved multiple pay increases at its Jan. 27, 2026 meeting affecting county employees and elected officials. The board voted to give a 3% raise to county employees (excluding those represented by the Sheriff Association) and a separate 3% raise to several elected offices, all effective July 1, 2026.
Motion by Keith Wirtz, second by Craig Merrill, carried to approve the 3% increase for county employees. The board also approved a 3% increase for the County Auditor, County Treasurer, County Recorder and County Attorney on a motion by Craig Merrill, second by Ron Graettinger. The board approved a 4% increase for County Sheriff John King on a motion by Graettinger, seconded by Wirtz.
Supervisors voted separately on their own pay. Motion by Ron Graettinger, second by Keith Wirtz, to approve a 3% increase for county supervisors passed with Chair Linus Solberg recorded as voting Nay and the other supervisors voting Aye. The minutes note that, unless otherwise indicated, motions at the meeting carried with ayes from Faulstick, Merrill, Graettinger, Wirtz and Solberg.
On personnel covered by public safety administration, the board approved a combined pay action for two positions. On motion by Roger Faulstick, second by Craig Merrill the board approved a 3% increase plus an additional $1.75 per hour for the Dispatch Administrator and the Jail Administrator, also effective July 1, 2026.
The actions were recorded as motions with seconds and outcomes in the meeting minutes; all of the above items were listed as carried or passed at the Jan. 27 session.
