Pueblo County commissioners voted to temporarily reduce demolition (wrecking) permit fees to $100 as a measure to ease cleanup after the Aspen Acres Fire. The reduction is written to apply to all applicants for a limited period, and staff agreed to reassess the policy in one month.
Arnold Montoya, the presenter from the building department, said: "What I'm asking... is that we reduce the fee down to a $100, for a demo permit." He told the board the permitting workload is light—typically five to ten demolition permits a year—and that a single inspection would cover most cases. Montoya added later, "$100 is sufficient." Commissioners questioned whether the resolution applied only to fire‑affected homeowners or to all applicants; one member noted the text reads it is applicable to all applicants and the board opted to keep the temporary, county‑wide language and revisit it in a month.
Transcript remarks included typical fee context: demo valuation-based fees averaging about $250 and demolition-related removal costs often around $500 for a large home. The resolution passed by voice vote. Staff will monitor permitting volumes and return with a status report and any recommendation to make the reduction permanent.
