County staff propose Beulah Heights Elementary as temporary recovery hub and storage site

County emergency management said it has secured a potential site for a long-term recovery assistance center at Beulah Heights Elementary School, offered by District 60 for an interim period.
Joshua Johnson told the commissioners that District 60 is consolidating schools, leaving Beulah Heights available for roughly a year to two years; the district agreed to provide utilities and basic custodial support and county staff plan to enter an MOU so the county can use classrooms, gymnasium space for a secondary shelter if needed, and gym/storage for pallets of donations. Johnson said county crews and volunteer partners would help maintain the site while the county stands up longer-term management.
County staff plan an afternoon site tour to confirm the facility's suitability and said the recovery manager—once hired—would oversee operations at the location.
