The workshop concluded with a list of local resources that residents and property owners can use for advice and dispute resolution. Jennifer Felton directed attendees to the City of Ventura website and highlighted the Housing Rights Center, which is available on-site some days at City Hall to offer mediation and legal help. She also identified the Housing Authority of San Buenaventura as an information source for tenants and landlords.
Felton described REFAT (Real Estate Fraud Advocacy Team) as a joint initiative created about 15 years ago among VCCAR, the District Attorney's Office and the County Recorder to educate the public and help address real-estate fraud, a persistent local problem she said can include title theft and fraudulent loans.
