County administrator highlights partnerships, events and awards; warns of incoming snowstorm

County Administrator W. Kevin Massengill used his Jan. 20 report to update the Board on several county initiatives and community items.
Mr. Massengill said the Citizens Academy is in its fifth cohort and has received positive feedback, and described a partnership meeting with Virginia Tech officials focused on strategic planning and economic analysis for localities. He introduced Andrea Dekoter as the new Petersburg National Battlefield Superintendent, noting her emphasis on tourism and collaboration. He also mentioned a tour of District Three with Supervisor William D. Chavis to observe infrastructure and housing patterns, Richard Bland College’s interim presidency, the start of the General Assembly session and related budget work, and upcoming community events including a historical marker dedication at Mount Level and a Walk for Peace stop in the county.
On public safety and operations, Mr. Massengill warned of an approaching significant snowstorm and urged residents to prepare, with particular attention to livestock and extended cold. He also announced that Clerk to the Board Camisha Brown earned the Master Municipal Clerk (MMC) designation, noting she is "the first in county history and the only MMC in the region," and said a press release recognizing her achievement is forthcoming.
