The Northeast Independent School District board approved a guaranteed maximum price (GMP) of $863,714.54 for phase 1 of bid package 3 — a contract to install six air‑cooled chillers at Wetmore, Roan Forest and Oak Meadow — part of the district’s 2025 bond program. Jorge Jarrett, an executive staff member who presented the item, said the contractor price reflects post‑solicitation value engineering and deducts that brought the price below the figure originally listed on the board agenda.
Jarrett said the 2025 bond program includes a total purchase of 57 chillers across 31 campuses and that the district has already taken delivery of the six chillers for phase 1. "We have a total of 57 chillers that we're purchasing for the school district," he said, and noted the voters approved roughly $17.9 million for the chiller portion of the bond. Jarrett told trustees he had set aside a $98,000 owner contingency to cover unforeseen items and that value engineering and credits reduced the contractor’s proposed cost to the recommended GMP.
Trustee Miss Thompson moved to approve the GMP; the motion passed 6–0. District staff said, if approved, crews could begin work immediately with an objective of completing the installed chillers before the start of school.
