County hires consultant to recruit candidates for reconstituted Hennepin Healthcare board

The Hennepin County Board voted to retain KPC Staffing Inc. (doing business as KP Companies) to assist with recruiting, vetting and recommending candidates for a reconstituted Hennepin Healthcare Systems Inc. corporate board, in response to a 2026 state law directing reconstitution by Jan. 15, 2027.
Administrator Wendland told the board the county removed the corporate board in August 2025 and has been operating as the governing board since. She said the June board directive asked the county administrator to identify and retain a consultant to support an objective, methodical recruitment process; the contract runs 08/04/2026–12/31/2027 with a not‑to‑exceed amount of $125,000 plus expenses. Commissioners asked for public feedback opportunities during recruitment and emphasized recruiting members who understand the hospital’s role as a safety‑net provider.
The motion carried by voice vote. Commissioners said bylaws governing the reconstituted board should be revisited to avoid prior governance problems.
